Facility Operator Part-Time Job Description The Facility
Operator of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ has the
primary duties listed below. These primary duties are subject to
revision from time to time as determined by the Facility Operator,
Property Committee Chairperson, and the Personnel Committee in
consultation with the Senior Pastor. The position requires being on
site 21 hours per week performing the following activities. Provide
oversight of the building Sunday through Saturday as necessary. Run
maintenance checks on the operating systems within the facility
including elevator, boilers for heat and air handlers for air
conditioning, sound systems and video systems. Perform light
plumbing, electric, carpentry work, i.e., general handyman work
within the church and adjoining apartment. May be required to meet
police at building to reset alarm if it goes off after hours. Set
up for special events and activities, i.e., set up tables and
chairs for meetings, dinners, receptions, tear down all set-ups.
Work closely with the Property Committee to be the point of contact
and/or schedule vendors to perform maintenance activities to or
within the building. Work closely with the Building Usage Committee
to unlock/lock building and remain onsite when outside
organizations are using the facility. During inclement weather,
ensure walkways and sidewalks around the church are free from
snow/ice and ice melt applied to ensure safety to all who enter or
walk around the building/property. REQUIRMENTS: Must be onsite up
to 7 hours on Sundays to prepare the church for Sunday services,
unlocking and observing entrances, monitoring the
microphones/sound/video systems during the 10:10 am church service.
Work requires adjusting normal work schedules to facilitate special
events, services or activities being conducted within the church.
If the special events require being onsite in excess of the
standard 21 hours per week, compensation shall be paid for the
extra time on site during the week of the event. Work requires
recurring bending, stooping, crawling as well as occasionally
lifting a minimum weight of approximately 50lbs, carrying, pulling,
and maneuvering moderately heavy equipment or items (such as
carrying/standing on an 8 foot stepladder). Walking, standing, or
traveling away from the work site to procure maintenance materials,
cleaning supplies, drop off/pick up from the post office, etc.
General knowledge of how to use IT equipment such as laptop,
printer, etc., to reply to emails, input time, maintain warranty
and service records of operating equipment and Building Systems,
etc. Ability to perform general handyman duties and schedule
appointments with vendors/contractors for building repairs or
maintenance checks. Ability to operate an electric hard surface
floor cleaning machine that dispenses water with cleaning solution
onto the floor surface through a scrubbing mechanism and then
vacuum up the solution and filters out the soil to allow reuse of
water. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: The Facility Operator may be required
to be available at weddings, funerals/memorial services, and other
special services throughout the year for set up and clean up. The
Facility Operator shall be available to prepare for Holy Week,
i.e., Lenten Season, Christmas Eve services. Compensation for these
services is paid as specified in the Personnel Handbook. OTHER
INFORMATION: The Facility Operator is required to work onsite
primarily 21 hours per week, adjusting their schedule to ensure
onsite presence during church events. Paid vacation is based on
start date and years of service and is explained in the Personnel
Handbook as well as Benefits. WEEKLY DUTIES INCLUDE: Wednesday or
Thursday 1:00 PM - 7:00PM = 6hrs Vacuum runner in gym if needed
before Sunday services weekly. Empty trash throughout building and
ensure the weeks trash is in the dumpster in the alley for Vendor
pickup Wednesday mornings. Secure the building. Monitor and adjust
as necessary the temperature in the Sanctuary to minimum and
maximum temperature required for maintenance of the Organ
equipment. Check supplies in all restrooms and fill or replace as
necessary. Straighten storage area in gym and store excess mobility
equipment in storage area. Twice monthly utilize the electric floor
cleaning machine, owned by the church, to clean the hard surface
floors within the church building. The floors to be cleaned with
this machine are the Dining Room, Kitchen, Basement corridors. The
gym floor is NOT to be cleaned with this machine. SUNDAY: SUNDAY
MORNING : 7: 30AM - 2:30PM = 7 hrs Early Sunday mornings adjust the
temperature settings for the heating or cooling systems serving the
Sanctuary for the comfort of the service attendees according to the
seasonal temperature requirements. Unlock outside ramp door safety
bar. Unlock inside ramp door safety bar about 8:30 Turn on lights
in parlor hallway, parlor, choir rooms and sanctuary. Turn on light
at lectern. Flip red switch for New Jersey St vestibule lights in
breaker box in choir room Turn on lights in rest of building,
including rest rooms at back of sanctuary, women's restroom at
bottom of North St stairs. Open office and turn on lights. Place
small stack (10) of bulletins in choir room, 6 on chair at New
Jersey St entrance, remainder on table outside North St door Turn
on sound system (main sound box and auxiliary in choir loft) at
9:00 Take laptop to sanctuary for live streaming. Turn on TV and
laptop in parlor to display announcements and church service. Put
altar flowers in vases in sanctuary. Light/extinguish abuse candle.
MONDAY: 12:00 Noon - 8:00PM = 8 hrs. Sanctuary - Trim "abuse
candles" on altar as needed. New altar candles for Sunday as
needed. Dust altar, chairs, pulpit and lectern. Go through pews -
clean out programs, communion cups and straighten books. Balcony -
DO NOT TOUCH ORGAN PIPES Clean out programs, communion cups and
straighten books. Turn on light switch for "headlight" if not on.
Sanctuary Restrooms - MEN'S AND WOMEN'S Refill supplies Chapel - Go
through pews - clean out programs, communion cups, straighten books
as needed. We are not currently using the Chapel for services.
Miscellaneous - Check emails. Create/maintain building maintenance
and permit renewal schedules. Schedule contractor and/or general
maintenance activities such as turning on/off sprinkler system,
check boilers, change air conditioning filters. Additional Services
to Support Include: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday
afternoon German service & GOOD FRIDAY before and following evening
services - Sanctuary Do not use altar or abuse candles on Good
Friday Take out trash. Go through pews - clean out programs,
communion cups (German Service only) and straighten books. Balcony
- DO NOT TOUCH ORGAN PIPES Clean out programs, communion cups and
straighten books. Turn on light switch for "headlight" if not on.
CHRISTMAS EVE Services - Before 5:00 Services Light candles in all
candelabras, votives and aisle candles After 5:00 Services
Distinguish all candles and replace used candles as needed. Clean
out programs, candles and straighten books. Replenish programs.
After Communion Service in Chapel Go through pews - clean out
programs and communion cups. Before 8:00 Services Light candles in
all candelabras, votives and aisle candles After 8:00 Services
Extinguish all candles and replace used candles as needed. Clean
out programs, communion cups, candles and straighten books.
